It’s also ‘Think About Sex Day’
A lot of people don’t realise that sexually transmitted infections are often symptomless—or silent—at first. My friends at Lloyds Pharmacy Online Doctor wanted to use ‘Think About Sex Day’ to help raise awareness of silent STIs, in the style of a silent movie.
The Health Protection Agency has reported that the number of new STI diagnoses in the UK increased by 49% between 2002 and 2011. Those aged 15 to 24 years old make up around 40% of new gonorrhoea cases and 80% of new chlamydia cases. We think it is shocking that so many people don’t realise they could be carrying a silent STI.
